One of the most exciting problems of extragalactic astronomy is the evolution of galaxies and its relation to the quasar population. QSOs host galaxies are the right objects to be studied for understanding the early activity of the core compared to those of normal AGN (i.e. having extended stellar population). ELTs of 30m-50m diameter will give the possibility of collecting statistics for ~ 1000 of relativily bright ( < 17m) QSOs having host galaxies to classify them by their morphology and to carry out a comparative analysis with all presently available and future multiwavelength data.
