LAMOST - Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope, the Chinese national large scientific project - is a reflecting Schmidt telescope with both a large field of view (5o) and large aperture (4m). This presentation gives an introduction to the evolution of the configuration of LAMOST, and its present progress. Also, an introduction to some studies which have been taking place in China in recent years are presented: (1)comparing LAMOST with other types of wide field telescope, and (2)a new configuration with a corrector array and a spherical primary mirror for a future large aperture wide field telescope.
