Supplier Database Invitation


All suppliers/service providers seeking registration on the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) supplier database are invited to submit their proposals and register on the database.  The purpose of the registration is to:

  • Afford potential suppliers/service providers an equal opportunity to submit quotations to the SAAO
  • Contribute to efficient administration and compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and Procurement Preferential Policy Framework Act
  • Ensure competitive procurement processes and procedures

Existing and potential suppliers/service providers will provide the following services for a valid period of twelve (12) months:

Electronic components & hardware, instrument calibration services, test & measurement instruments, PCB manufacturing, computers and computer requisites, computer/network components, software, industrial computer systems/components, magnetometers, landing compasses, PC/104 components, air-conditioning & refrigeration, building maintenance, corrosion protection, electrical equipment/repairs, engraving, flooring, gasses, gardening, hardware & building supplies, machine tools/equipment, maintenance consumable & chemicals, mechanical/electrical maintenance, motor vehicle sales & maintenance, office furniture, pest control, protective clothing, security services, steel/non-ferrous metals, transport, courier services, welding services & supplies, stationery, books and journals.

The following information must be submitted in a sealed envelope marked “Supplier Database” to SAAO, P.O. Box 9, Observatory, 7935, no later than 31 October 2006:

  • Fax number
  • E-mail address
  • BEE status
  • Shareholders
  • Previous experience
  • Contactable references
  • Original and valid tax clearance certificate

Non-submission of original and updated tax clearance certificate may disqualify your proposal.
