Pieter’s - Odds and Sutherland Page

Welcome!

I work at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) where I am employed as an electronics technician.
The observatory houses only a few people and is also a game reserve.
Springbok and other animals are our only company most of the time.

Sutherland is a small town in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa about 370 km from Cape Town.

This is a semi arid and mountainous area and the climate varies from quite hot in summer to below zero in winter with snow.
In the surrounding area are quite a few 4x4 trails open to the public. 

I have moved back to Cape Town but I am  still involved with Sutherland and visit the observatory regulary.
Since I am a keen Land Rover owner I make use of every available opportunity to take the vehicles off-road.
