Koringkriek

One of the amazing creatures that are found in the Karoo is the grey Koringkriek (directly translated wheat cricket - but you would not find any natural wheat growing in the Karoo). I have no idea what it's common English name is but my dictionary tells me its proper name is Eugaster longipes. Where they occur in green surroundings in other parts of the country, they are green in colour.

Also visible in this picture is some green and yellow moss that grows on the rocks in the Karoo dispite the very dry climate.
