Introduction to the Gematria program. ===================================== "Bible numerics is a recognized and legitimate method of extracting information from scripture and thereby gaining a better insight and understanding of the Bible." Quoted from M. Isted - The final jubilee. For serious users of this program I would recommend studying the following books: Number in scripture by E.W. Bullinger. The seal of God by F.C. Payne Any book you can find by Dr Ivan Panin. The final jubilee by M. Isted. The following is a list of keyboard figures and its alphabetical numerical equivalent for the Greek Alphabet. The Gematria program will accept upper and lower case letters. Keyboard Greek Number character character value --------- --------- ------ A = Alpha = 1 B = Beta = 2 G = Gamma = 3 D = Delta = 4 E = Epsilon = 5 Z = Zeta = 7 H = Eta = 8 Q = Theta = 9 I = Iota = 10 K = Kappa = 20 L = Lambda = 30 M = Mu = 40 N = Nu = 50 F = Xi = 60 O = Omikron = 70 P = Pi = 80 R = Rho = 100 S = Sigma = 200 T = Tau = 300 U = Upsilon = 400 V = Phi = 500 X = Chi = 600 Y = Psi = 700 W = Omega = 800 The following is a list of keyboard figures and its alphabetical numerical equivalent for the Hebrew Alphabet. The Gematria program will except upper and lower case letters. When doing Hebrew Gematria from the Strong's Concordance feed only the transliteration of the Hebrew word. Keyboard Hebrew Number character character value --------- --------- ------ ' = 'Aleph = 1 B = Beyth = 2 G = Giymel = 3 D = Daleth = 4 H = He = 5 V or W = Vaw = 6 Z = Zayin = 7 Ch = Cheyth = 8 T. = Teyth = 9 Y = Yowd = 10 K = Kaph = 20 L = Lamed = 30 M = Mem = 40 N = Nuwn = 50 C = Camek = 60 ` = `Ayin = 70 P = Pe = 80 Ph = Phe = 80 Ts = Tsadey = 90 Q = Qowph = 100 R = Reysh = 200 S = Siyn = 300 Sh = Shiyn = 300 T = Tav = 400 Th = Thav = 400 All the vowels ( A,E,I,O,U ) are allowed but not included in the Gematria calculations. The calculation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since Greek and Hebrew had no numeral characters, the above designation of numeric values were given to their alphabetical characters. This forms the basis for the Gematria calculation. An option is available to ignore the zeros in the above numbers for the product calculation to make the answers more manageable but this could cause possible divisions to be lost. Look at the following example : Input Greek word(s) : meqodeia Strongs Reference : 3180 English meaning : wait Eph 4:14 Division checking : 12 360 ...1 Product excess Zeros : ON ...2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : meqodeia Sum =144 = Great dividing Nr - Divide : 12(x12) 12(x1) ...3 Prod=25200000=2520 = Great Tribulation - Divide : 12(x2100000) ...4 12(x175000) 360(x70000) s)1x4x4=16 = ----------- - Divide : ...5 p)2x5x2=20=2 = Witness - Divide : ...6 p)2=2 = Witness - Divide : ...7 m=40 = 40 Jubilees ...8 me=200=2 = Witness meq=1800 = ----------- meqo=126000=12600 = Days in Jesus life meqod=504000 = ----------- meqode=2520000=2520 = Great Tribulation meqodei=25200000=2520 = Great Tribulation meqodeia=25200000=2520 = Great Tribulation ***************************************************************************** The Sum in (...3) was obtained as follows (compare with the Greek letter values in the first part of the document): m e q o d e i a 40 + 5 + 9 + 70 + 4 + 5 + 10 + 1 = 144 The answer is next checked against the data in file MEANINGS.DAT and since 144 has a meaning, it is reported. Next, the answer is checked to see if it is devisible by the current set of divisor values. ( Default to the values in file DIVISORS.DAT at start-up. ) If division checking is sucessfull, the divisor value and the number of times it divided in brackets are reported. As can be seen in (...1), 12 & 360 are used for division checking. Since 12 x 12 = 144, (x12) is returned in (...3). The number of times it devided is again checked for division and because 12 can still devide into 12, 12(x1) is reported. The Product in (...4) now becomes : m e q o d e i a 40 x 5 x 9 x 70 x 4 x 5 x 10 x 1 = 25200000 Since Product excess Zeros is ON as indicated in (...2) the letter values are used with all trailing zero's in the above calculation. When checking the answer for a meaning, none is found at first. Since the answer has trailing zero's, they are removed one by one to see if the number has got meaning as was the case when it was reduced to 2520 in (...4). Note that division checking is done on the full answer, before any zero's were trimmed off ie. 12 x 2100000 = 25200000. These two answers are then further simplified by multipying it's numbers together. In (...5) the sum of 144 becomes 1x4x4 = 16 and in (...6) the product of 25200000 becomes 2x5x2 = 20. These results are again checked for meanings and division as before and if either is succsessfull, the result is further simplified like where the 20=2 of (...6) had a meaning, it became 2=2 in (...7). Allthough 2 has a meaning, it cannot be further simplified and processing stops. As can be seen, zero's are completely ignored in these calculations. The s) and p) 's in lines 5 to 7 indicates whether it was processing the Sum or Product answers. The part from (...8) onwards is a demonstration of partial word evaluation. As can be seen, this function shows the answers of each letter multiplied systematically and meaning checking is again done. Look at the next example of a sentence : Input Greek word(s) : Hmera to Kurios Strongs Reference : 2250 3588 2962 English meaning : Day of the Lord 1 Cor 5:5 Division checking : Product excess Zeros : OFF ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : Hmera Sum =154 = ----------- - Divide : Prod=160 = ----------- - Divide : s)1x5x4=20=2 = Witness - Divide : s)2=2 = Witness - Divide : p)1x6=6 = Man in sin - Divide : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : to Sum =370 = ----------- - Divide : Prod=21 = ----------- - Divide : s)3x7=21 = ----------- - Divide : p)2x1=2 = Witness - Divide : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : Kurios Sum =800=8 = Jesus - Divide : Prod=112 = ----------- - Divide : s)8=8 = Jesus - Divide : p)1x1x2=2 = Witness - Divide : ============================================================================= Gematria for the sentence : Hmera to Kurios Sum =45584000 = ----------- - Divide : Prod=376320 = ----------- - Divide : s)4x5x5x8x4=3200=32 = Jesus gets crusified - Divide : s)3x2=6 = Man in sin - Divide : p)3x7x6x3x2=756 = ----------- - Divide : S)1x5x4x3x7x8=3360=336 = Resurection - Divide : ...1 S)3x3x6=54 = ----------- - Divide : P)1x6x2x1x1x1x2=24 = Day - Divide : ...2 P)2x4=8 = Jesus - Divide : ***************************************************************************** When a sentence is entered, the calculation for each individual word is still the same, but the evaluation of the sentence changes as follows : a) To get the Sum for the sentence, the Sums of the words are multiplied. b) To get the Prod for the sentence, the Prods of the words are multiplied. This can be seen in the above example where : a) sentence Sum = 154 x 370 x 800 = 45584000 and b) sentence Prod = 160 x 21 x 112 = 376320. Also notice that in this example both Product excess Zero's and Partial word evaluation were switched off which would not effect any answers since no division checking was done. The output thus becomes much more manageable. In the simplification section, all the sum and product numbers from the words in the sentence are multiplied as in (...1) & (...2) where eg. the sums of 154, 370 & 800 of the three words becomes 1x5x4x3x7x8=3360=336. This time S) and P) indicate SENTENCE sum and product eveluation. In the next example of a Hebrew sentence, note the use of vowels in the input words, how they are excepted by the program, but ignored from the calculations. Input Hebrew word(s) : Yehovah Yowm Strongs Reference : 3068 3117 English meaning : Day of the Lord (Hebrew) Division checking : 7 8 11 144 Product excess Zeros : OFF ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : Yehovah Sum =26 = ----------- - Divide : Prod=150 = ----------- - Divide : s)2x6=12 = Govermantal - Divide : s)1x2=2 = Witness - Divide : p)1x5=5 = Grace - Divide : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gematria for the word : Yowm Sum =56 = ----------- - Divide : 7(x8) 8(x7) Prod=24 = Day - Divide : 8(x3) s)5x6=30 = 30 Jubilees - Divide : s)3=3 = Triunity - Divide : p)2x4=8 = Jesus - Divide : 8(x1) ============================================================================= Gematria for the sentence : Yehovah Yowm Sum =1456 = ----------- - Divide : 7(x208) 8(x182) Prod=3600=360 = Time - Divide : 8(x450) 144(x25) s)1x4x5x6=120=12 = Govermantal - Divide : 8(x15) s)1x2=2 = Witness - Divide : p)3x6=18 = ----------- - Divide : S)2x6x5x6=360 = Time - Divide : 8(x45) S)3x6=18 = ----------- - Divide : P)1x5x2x4=40 = 40 Jubilees - Divide : 8(x5) P)4=4 = World - Divide : ***************************************************************************** In the above examples, notice how the meaning of the original Greek or Hebrew word gets reflected in the number analysis if it. The program ~~~~~~~~~~~ The raw program is distributed with the following files: GEMATRIA.DOC This file. GEMATRIA.EXE The main program to run. MEANINGS.DAT A list of meaningfull numbers in Gematria and their meanings. DIVISORS.DAT A list of numbers to check Gematria results for division. Although the .DAT files can be edited using any text editor, care should be taken to stick to the same format. There are however options in the program to change these files. If the serious user finds any omissions or mistakes in the MEANINGS.DAT file, it would be appreceated if they let us know. The program is designed to be able to make extensive use of disk files, created by the user, to store information. Two types of files are used namely : Input and Output files. As words are fed into the program, they can be stored in INPUT FILE(S) for later re-runs eg. to check with a different set of divisor values or to produce conditional output files, etc. The output of the program can be stored in OUTPUT FILE(S) with the names and extensions of the users choice eg. the input file GREEK1.IP produce output file GREEK1.OP or conditional output files GREEK1.32 for all the words with 32 as an answer or GREEK1.DIV for all the words with divisible answers. When the program starts up, the following menu appears : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Gematria Vx.xx W.P.Koorts º ÌÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ͹ º MAIN MENU º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º Q QUIT to operating system º º Z excess product ZEROS .. Z excess product ZEROs .. ON/OFF ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toggles the function for using the trailing zero's of the letter values during product evaluation or not. When switched off, the trailing zero's are ignored for product calculations but any zero's in the answer are retained. P PARTIAL word evaluation .. ON/OFF ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toggles between Partial word evaluation ON and OFF. See above examples. G do GREEK word(s) gematria & H do HEBREW word(s) gematria ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before this option is selected and you want to save Input data to disk, the "I change INPUT log file-name" should be selected else you will be warned that currently no input data is stored to disk. The current output filename will be displayed if one has been selected. This is not necessary to select beforehand but can be done from the main menu by the "O change OUTPUT log file-name" selection or, as will be seen a little later on in this option, you will be prompted for a filename if you choose to route the output to a file. A list of the current divisor values is displayed next. This will default to the contents of the DIVISORS.DAT file on startup, but can be changed at any time by the "V change/show DIVISOR values" option. Next the Greek or Hebrew word is asked for. This is entered by using the keyboard characters shown in the beginning of this document and only those characters are allowed by the program. Sentences are indicated by spaces between words. The Strong's reference and English description of the word is asked for next. By entering a "Q" or "q" for the English meaning, you will be returned to the main menu. If the input characters are all allowed, the Gematria calculation is displayed on the screen, but when an invalid character is encountered, it is indicated by a beep and you are told which was the wrong character. If an input file was selected, all your input is saved to it at this point. You are next presented with the following menu to decide where the output has to go : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Output-Data destination º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º P to Print to Printer º º Spacebar to write to output File º º B to do Both of the above º º Enter to do None of the above º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ P option will dump the Gematria calculation just performed to the printer. Space option will (if an output file has been selected) save this calculation as it stands to the current selected output file. If however a file has not been selected yet, the following menu appears : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Output-Data Log-File Selection º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º Select A to Append to an existing file º º O to Overwrite an existing file º º N to choose a New filename º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ These options are self explanatory. BE CAREFULL HOWEVER WHEN USING THE O and N OPTIONS, NOT TO LOOSE VALUABLE DATA! B option will do both the P & Spacebar options . Enter option will skip to next input word. F gematria from input log-FILE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option is used to take the data stored in an input file ( created earlier using the H & G commands ) and produce an output of the full gematria calculation for all the words in the input file. All the current program settings for divisors, excess product Zero's and Partial word evaluation are taken into account when producing the output. This is useful if you want to check a number of words with different divider values or with different combinations of the two toggle functions. Firstly you are prompted for the Input filename which contains the input words you want to do the Gematria calculation on. Next the output destination is asked for with the already familier menu : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Output-Data destination º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º P to Print to Printer º º Spacebar to write to output File º º B to do Both of the above º º Enter to do None of the above º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ While the data is being manipulated, a message appears. C create a CONDITIONAL o/p file ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option is used to analyze your data as follows: Data in an input file ( created earlier using the H & G commands ) is taken through the full gematria calculation and only those results satisfying one of the following conditions are output. These conditions can be one of two choices : a) When a specific number was obtained as an answer in a calculation. b) When a number is divisible by any one of the current dividers. You are firstly prompted with the following selection : Press N for output on a specific Number as an answer D for output on a successful Division If N was selected, you are asked for this number. The D option displays the current set of divisor values and gives you the choice of changing them. These are the values used in the Gematria calculations and only words with successful division is output. The Input filename and Output destination is asked for next and then the calculations are done with successful occurrences being output. Again all the current program settings for divisors, excess product Zero's and Partial word evaluation are taken into account when producing the output. eg. You want to know which of the words in an input file will give a Gematria result of 32? Select option N and enter 32 as the number. All the words in the output destination will have the number 32 somewhere as an answer in it's Gematria calculation. Select only those words which has it's Gematria result divisible by 144? Choose option D and only input 144 as a divisor value. All the words on the output destination will then have at least one of it's Gematria results divisible by 144. N find a NUMBER in output file ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option is used to analyze your data as follows : You will be asked for a number and a valid output filename ( previously created by any of the G, H, F or C options ). This file is then checked and any occurrence of your number as an answer from a calculation, is reported and counted. I change INPUT log file-name ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option activates input data logging and the following menu appears : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Input-Data Log-File Selection º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º Select A to Append to an existing file º º O to Overwrite an existing file º º N to choose a New filename º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ These options are self explanatory. BE CAREFULL HOWEVER WHEN USING THE O and N OPTIONS, NOT TO LOOSE VALUABLE DATA! O change OUTPUT log file-name ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option determines where the program output goes and the following menu appears : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Output-Data Log-File Selection º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º Select A to Append to an existing file º º O to Overwrite an existing file º º N to choose a New filename º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ These options are self explanatory. BE CAREFULL HOWEVER WHEN USING THE O and N OPTIONS, NOT TO LOOSE VALUABLE DATA! D DIRECTORY of disk files ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option gives a directory of the disk files. You are prompted with a dir mask and *.* is assumed on Enter. Any valid DOS mask and path can be used. T TYPE (view) a file to screen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You are asked for a valid filename of an ascii file and it's contents will then be listed a screenful at a time. By pressing E at the "Press any key" prompt, you are returned to the main menu. V change/show DIVISOR values ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The set of current divisor values can be checked or changed using this option. These values are listed and you are prompted if you want to change them. If you answer yes, the old values are all forgotten and you can enter the new values terminating the list by entering a "0". Then you have the option of saving these values to disk or not. If you answer yes, the contents of the DIVISORS.DAT file get overwritten and will become the default values when the program next starts up. It you answer no, the new values will be used until they are changed again by this option or when you quit the program. S SHOW numbers and meanings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option lists the contents of the disk file MEANINGS.DAT which is the default list of meanings allocated to Gematria numbers at program startup. This is the same as using the T (Type a file) command and giving it the file- name MEANINGS.DAT. M change MEANING of number ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Above mentioned meanings can be edited with this command. The following menu appears when invoked : ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ» º Edit the Meaning of a Number. º ÇÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĶ º Select A to Add a new number & meaning. º º D to Delete a number & meaning. º º C to Change a number s meaning. º ÈÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍͼ These options do exactly what they say. With the D and C options a check is first made to see if your entry exists and it's current meaning is displayed. You then have a choice of proceeding. When you have no more meanings to change, you have the option of saving it to disk, overwriting the present MEANINGS.DAT file and thus becoming your future defaults. If you answer no, these values will remain for the present session or until you change any of them again. If the serious user finds any omissions or mistakes in the MEANINGS.DAT file, it would be appreciated if they let us know. ADDITIONAL NOTES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Program Limits ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following are the Maximum values the program can accommedate : Divisor values ----------------------------------------------------------- 30 Meanings ----------------------------------------------------------------- 200 Greek/Hebrew words in sentence ------------------------------------------- 19 Greek/Hebrew input word/sentence length (chars) -------------------------- 128 Strong's reference input length (chars) ---------------------------------- 128 English meaning input length (chars) ------------------------------------- 128 I/P or O/P filename length - including extention (chars) ----------------- 12 A typical session ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following shows a typical session using the Gematria program : Start the program by typing GEMATRIA from the DOS prompt. You start up in the MAIN MENU. Choose "I" (to set up your input file). Choose "N" to create a NEW file. Name your file at the ENTER FILENAME prompt. Back at the MAIN MENU. Choose "O" (to set up your OUTPUT file). This procedure is the same as with the "I" option. Note: This is not strictly necessary at this stage because you will get a chance after doing your first Gematria procedure to set up your output file. Back at the MAIN MENU. Toggle "Z" and "P" options into the desired states for the output wanted. Choose "V" if you want to check or change divisor values. If you change them and you answer Yes to save them to disk, they will be the same values when you next start the program from disk. If you however answer No, they will only be used for the current session or until you change them again. Choose "G" or "H" (for Greek/Hebrew Gematria). Feed in the required data: a) Greek word/s or phrase ( in keyboard form ). b) Strong's number(s). c) English meaning. Eveluate the output on the screen and decide where to route the output to. (Mostly this will probably be to the disk file - so press Spacebar). To return to the Main menu Enter "Q" for English meaning. Back at the MAIN MENU. Analyze the data as follows : Choose "N" (find a NUMBER in o/p file) Enter numbers for searching O/P file for occcurances. This is a quick first check for "online" checking. Choose "C" (create a CONDITIONAL o/p file) Select "D" or "N" according to output wanted. Choose o/p filename to give indication of condition/value selected. Choose "Q" when finished. Hebrew GEMATRIA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greek and Hebrew GEMATRIA procedures are the same except the following which should be kept in mind. When doing Hebrew Gematria using the Strong's Concordance you only need to feed in the translation. But if you use the THE INTERLINEAR BIBLE you should double check the original or translate the original into our symbols which is the same as the Strong's transliteration. The vowels are ignored by the program, but when you see an added dot at the bottom of the t you should type t. or T. to ensure that the program can discern between Teyth and Tav.
