Star formation in extremely ram-pressure stripped galaxies
Galaxies falling into clusters have been shown to experience gas stripping due to the intra-cluster medium (ICM). The so-called “jellyfish” galaxies represent an extreme example of this phenomenon. The work presented in this talk will focus on the neutral gas (HI) phase of quintessential “jellyfish” galaxies, observed with MeerKAT, and the VLA. These galaxies are found in various environments including low mass cluster with velocity dispersions of 𝜎~500 km/s and massive clusters with 𝜎~1000 km/s. In this talk, I will discuss the correlation between their HI content and star formation efficiencies as they relate to the impact of stripping events on their neutral interstellar medium within these different environments.
