"First Contact" - Solar eclipse - 3 November 1994
Within 2½ years of the previous eclipse, South Africa was again "in the shadow of the Moon" on 3 November 1994. Here the first bite from the Sun's disc is just becoming noticable. Look closely at a position of about 10 'o clock near the edge of the Sun and you can just make out the silhouette of two swallows crossing the face of the Sun - a sunspot group is also faintly visable near the centre of the disc.
