SAAO 200 Bursaries

2020 marked the 200 years anniversary of the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). As part of its celebrations, the SAAO is giving away ten R 20,000 bursaries to university students from the Northern Cape. These bursaries are intended to assist with needs like text books, travelling, food, computers and educational equipment.

Eligibility

You may apply if you fulfil all of the following requirements.

  • You matriculated in the Northern Cape.
  • You come from a home with a household income of R 600,000 or less.
  • You are pursuing studies in tourism, mathematics, science education, science or engineering, and you are studying at a South African university.
  • You are in your first or second year at university.

Application

To apply, send the following documents by email to saao200bursary@saao.ac.za.

If you are a first-year student:

  • An application letter, which should include your student number, your field of study, your home’s household income and a motivation
  • Proof of admission to a South African university
  • A copy of your matric certificate

If you are a second-year student:

  • An application letter, which should include your student number, your field of study, your home’s household income and a motivation
  • Your first-year study results

The closing date for applications is 15 May 2021.
